肚皮舞的由來？

中東肚皮舞土耳其文叫Oryantal Dans，阿拉伯名叫Raqs Sharqi，都是東方之舞的意思。也就是說，對中東地區的人而言，這樣的舞來自東方的印度。一般相信來自印度的吉普賽人在輾轉遷徙的過程中，將他們的舞蹈帶入各地，並結合當地的民族特色，變化成具有共同特徵的各色舞蹈，因此到了中東結合中東文化演變成中東肚皮舞。而肚皮舞的這個名稱則源於19世紀時，西方人來到奧圖曼土耳其，驚艷於這個以腹部為運動中心的舞蹈，法國人稱之為danse du ventre，而後美國稱之為Belly Dance..

每個地方的肚皮舞風格不同，中東地區主分土耳其、埃及、黎巴嫩三大風格。然而仍因互相交流有許多相似之處，而三者最重要的皆為音樂節奏的表達，此外獨舞、即興也是中東肚皮舞的共同特徵。

土耳其肚皮舞的最大特色是著重肌肉的分解和組合，動作細緻富變化，節奏點非常清楚、俐落，對於音樂的掌控度及創意部分，大部分舞者都需具備一定的水準。就使用的音樂來說，與埃及風格相比音樂較快，層次較分明、節奏感強、爆發力十足。舞者的情緒表現在嫵媚中帶著昂然獨立，裝扮較摩登簡潔，穿高跟鞋，注重即興。
