[b][color=green]INTRO :[/color][/b] The origins of the Native American flute are hazy and still mysterious. Archeologists have found examples dating back to 'basketmaker' times over 2000 years ago, but most believe the cedar instrument we know today orginated in the American Southwest.
It was adopted by the Ute tribe in Utah in the 1850s; later it spread south to Taos Pueblo, Pecos, Santa Fe, and finally to the Plains tribes, where it was used for courting songs and while traveling. Under pressure from modernization, the Native flute all but died out in the early years of the 20th century, until it was revived in the 1960s. Gentle, soulful, tinged with subtle emotions, wisdom and experience, the sound of the Native American flute has become more popular than ever.
